We are seeking our first ever Consumer Insights lead to help us uncover what drives our small business customers so we can deliver increasingly tailored experiences and meet entrepreneurs where they are. Understanding the people we serve is important to us. This role reports to the CMO and will be an early leader on the team.
Next is well positioned to take the lead in the $135 billion small business insurance market because we offer a 100% online experience that is tailored to unique business needs and we insure customers in minutes - something no one else does. Despite the size of the market, the experience of buying small business insurance has not caught up with best practices in other industries like banking, lending, and even personal lines insurance. There is still a lot of paper involved, purchasing a policy can take days or even weeks, and the coverage is so complex that it’s hard for entrepreneurs to understand what they are buying.
We're here to change that. Our goal is to make insurance simple, affordable, and transparent for small businesses so they can stop worrying about insurance and focus on running their businesses.
About This Role
The Head of Consumer Insights is responsible for helping us more deeply understand our customers and the industry in which we operate. It is a strategic partner in shaping the future of the business, from influencing roadmap priorities and brand positioning to establishing segmentations and value props. This person should be comfortable building and leading a team for the long term success of the business.
You are passionate about consumers. You love nothing more than learning what motivates people and can connect the dots so that Next can help them thrive. When it comes to executing great research, you know the right way to do things, the fast way to things and how to make a call. You have a history of influencing decision making and take pride in being the voice of the consumer in the room.
Establish the Consumer Insights function at Next to influence brand positioning, product roadmap and company strategy
Develop foundational learning plans and manage all research to lead to brand refresh, segmentation, targeting and messaging prioritization
Be the voice of the small business owner across the company
Influence strategy by translating research findings into actionable recommendations for teams and executive leadership
Bring in the right methodologies to achieve objectives, whether they be short term, responsive solutions or longer term investments
Represent a comprehensive picture of the market and consumer, develop a holistic view of our targets, and educate stakeholders through insightful story-telling
Identify excellent research vendors and manage them to deliver results
Establish the foundations for a team with the objective of managing and developing a staff
Desired Skills and Experience:
7+ years consumer and market research experience
Technical expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, tools, and data analysis techniques
Passionate about the consumer and intellectually curious in approach to problem solving
Demonstrated ability to turn research results into strategic insights that shape decision making
Clear communicator, influencer, and educator that can drive a consumer-centric POV across the company
Skilled cross-functional collaborator
Experience managing people and leading teams
Experience on consumer centric brands; in-house experience preferred
Experience in small business and/or insurance a plus
Master’s Degree a plus
