How Much is Handyman Insurance for General Liability?

General liability insurance protects handymen who are working from certain types of costs. These include claims related to:

  • Injury to people other than yourself or your employees, which can result in medical costs or lawsuits
  • Property damage, including claims about your work causing damage even after it’s done
  • Personal injury, which includes claims that your words or images caused harm to someone’s reputation

Given that you’re constantly working in different customers’ homes, general liability coverage is important for making sure your business is covered, no matter what happens. Handyman insurance costs that could be covered include legal costs, medical expenses, and more.

Most of our customers pay: $361-$707 annually, or between $30-$60 per month
Per occurrence limit: $300,000-$1 million, depending on your policy

How Much Does Handyman Insurance Cost for Professional Liability?

Handyman Professional Liability insurance starts at $2/month and relates to the work that you do as a handyman.

Professional Liability is included in the Pro and Pro Plus plans, which start at $30/month. It’s not available as a standalone policy and can only be purchased as part of a Pro or Pro Plus policy.

Let us explain. You don’t need to spend your time understanding the difference between various types of insurance. The question of what insurance a handyman needs and how much you need of each type isn’t one you have time to deal with; you have a business to run. To make your decision easier, we’ve combined general and professional liability insurance into a single, integrated handyman package that offers the coverage you need.

Professional liability insurance relates to the work that you do, specifically as a handyman. While general liability covers accidents including catastrophic accidents that could happen to anyone in any business, professional liability insurance covers you if you don’t do your job properly–if an appliance wasn’t installed right, a job wasn’t finished, or a sink you fixed breaks. It’s important for people who are considered experts in their field. Everyone makes mistakes, and handyman professional liability coverage makes sure a mistake doesn’t wind up costing your business money.

These claims are generally smaller than general liability claims, so our packages and pricing reflect that fact, with lower limits and coverage included within the larger policy. All of our policies also include products completed coverage, so even claims made after the work is done are included.

Most of our customers pay: An additional 4-8% for this coverage, which is reflected in the total policy cost
Per occurrence limit: $10,000-$20,000, depending on your policy
Aggregate policy limit: $25,000-$50,000, depending on your policy
Deductible: $500
